Baltimore Greenway Trails Network

Adopted as part of the Baltimore Green Network Plan in September 2018 by the Baltimore City Planning Commission

The Baltimore Greenway Trails Network is a comprehensive city-wide Shared-use Path plan that will connect Baltimore's existing trails (Jones Falls Trail, Gwynns Falls Trail, Herring Run Trail, Middle Branch, and Harbor Promenade) into a  unified trail system serving all quadrants of Baltimore. It will connect Baltimore neighborhoods with the city's waterfronts. This project is led by a partnership of Baltimore City agencies including Recreation and Parks, Transportation, and Planning.

New sections of shared-use paths will be designed and built to complete these connections.  As a true multi-modal trail, it will serve walkers, bicyclists, joggers, stroller pushers, dog walkers, those in wheel chairs, dockless scooters, and more.   Where feasible, the trail will be built off-road, so users will have minimal interface with vehicular traffic.

The route of new shared-use path segments were chosen based on criteria such as directness, safety, engineering feasibility, cost, and available right of way.  Community input has been and will continue to be part of the process.

The new sections of the Shared-Use Path trail network in the planning stages are:

The Northern Segments-from the Gwynns Falls Trail to Herring Run Trail

The Eastern Segments-from the Herring Run Trail to Canton Waterfront Park

The Southern Segments-from the Gwynns Falls Trail to the Harbor Promenade

The Reimagine Middle Branch Plan-from the Gwynns Falls Trail to Port Covington to Brooklyn

Additional Shared-Use Paths are envisioned, but not in formal planning stages.
